The Domain Of Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Brazil Hacked And Defaced

The domain of the Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) search engine in Brazil was hacked on Tuesday afternoon by a lone individual who identified himself as Kuroi’SH”. In the aftermath, the hacker left a defaced page and a message which contained greetings to his friends. The defaced page was visible for half an hour before it was eventually taken down.

Breaking news

Due to the fact that it was impossible to access the Google website without coming across the defacement, the incident became a breaking news item in Brazil.

It is a great moment to die. Hacked by Kuroi’SH! Two Google at once, I don’t even care; f**k the jealous hates such as Nofawkx. Two Google at once world record idgaf :D. Greets to my friends Prosox & Shinobi h4xor,” wrote Kuroi’SH on the deface page.

Kuroi’SH later clarified that by Two Google’ he meant the Google Paraguay search engine domain as well because he defaced it also though he didn’t get enough time to make a mirror. While Google Brazil acknowledged that the incident indeed took place, the search engine giant denied it was a hacking and instead claimed that what happened was an attack on the DNS servers which then redirected it to other websites.

The hacker also added that the reason for his actions was the fact that he wanted to prove to the world that everything and anything can be hacked and individuals and governments alike should not ignore or underestimate the security risks involved.

Google Maps and Google Translate

Additional reports from news organizations in Brazil claimed that besides Google’s search engine website, the domains of Google Translate and Google Maps were also defaced. Kuroi’SH, however, denied doing such a thing.

This is not the first time in the recent past that a similar incident has happened to Google. Last year in December, access to Google’s homepage in Bangladesh was disrupted following a case of Domain Name Server hijacking. This is not the first of high-profile hacking incident attributed to Kuroi’SH also. Two years ago, the defacement of a NASA subdomain in which he left pro-Palestinian messages was linked to him.

In Wednesday’s trading session, Alphabet Inc fell by 0.03 percent to close the day at $807.77 a share.
